Okay so I've come to realize, that I'm terrible at blogging. I always forget I have one, and it is moments like these, when I'm on other sites and see other people's blogs and remember to write my own. Surprisingly enough, I've actually been trying to keep busy! (Mostly to keep my mind off of other things, that in reality, seem petty to worry about.)
School has been going great, although it has honestly taken me a while to get back into the groove. At my very first test I had to take this semester for my Ethics class, I completely freaked out and couldn't remember what I was writing about. I was in a total daze, even completely forgetting to do one section of the exam. I can't let that happen EVER again, and I realized I just need to calm down and stay focused or I would be setting myself up for failure. After a lot of careful thought and consideration, I also decided to change my major to sound recording and engineering. Music is my passion, and if i can do something that involves it, I know it will make me happiest in the long run.
Speaking of music, I have been spending quite a bit of time going to a lot of shows in the Syracuse area. It's a passion that many of my friends and I share, and besides supporting my close friend's band, The Brethren, by going to all of their shows, we go to a lot of other shows together.
Although they're not a local artist, the highlight of my month (yes, already) was the Umphrey's Mcgee show I went to at the Westcott Theater on March 3. I knew they weren't going to do my favorite song, 'In the Kitchen' because they had done it about two shows earlier. However, I got over that VERY quickly when they decided to do a cover of my favorite song of all time, 'Another Brick in the Wall' by Pink Floyd. IT WAS WONDERFUL!! It was definitely the cherry on top of an awesome show and a great evening.
Also amazing, was a band called The Machine, who plays Pink Floyd music. It was a very impressive show, and they played some of the best Pink Floyd covers I had ever heard. It must be quite obvious that I really, really enjoy the music of Pink Floyd! It was well worth the entry fee and if you enjoy this type of music, you were sure to have a fantastic time!
As far as local bands go, I went to an event called the Sam Slam at the Westcott Theater because The Brethren (who I love) was playing, and also saw a band called Turnip Stampede play. They play a funk/jam band style of music, and boy they were wonderful! I didn't necessarily expect to leave so interested in another band! A few weeks later, I saw them again at the Dinosaur BBQ and enjoyed them once again. I just found out they will be there again on March 27th, and I will be there for sure! :-)
Okay well, I've seen several more bands and have plenty more I want to see, but I'm not really here to do reviews of bands and what not. As usual though, it has been a lot of fun! Now I have just been trying to plan which shows and festivals I want to attend throughout this summer/fall season. I can't wait...bring on the warm and nice weather PLEASE!!!!
